HysucraftTM technology has proven to be highly effective as a high-speed ferry platform. Through the catamaran configuration more deck area is utilised for passenger occupation, more stability is realized which results in a more comfortable ride experience and using the HysucraftTM technology technology, smoother operation in rough seas is realized, lower operational costs and smaller engines, lower emmissions and long range ensures that a more viable platform is provided for a wide range of operational challenges. The lowering of the resistance through the hydrofoils ensures that the craft can reach higher speeds which can result in a faster turnaround time and more daily routes.
Hysucraft technology has been used on ferries of all sizes, ranging from small tourist ferries of approximately 12 meters to the largest Hysucraft ever designed which came in at a whopping 72 meters. The most popular size for the Hysucraft technology currently is between 16 meters and 24 meters. Low-wake conditions are vital for ferry operators and due to the lower resistance of the Hysucraft technology, our craft conform to the most stringent of conditions.
The “Rheinjet” for the Koln-Dusseldorf operator “kD”is a fast river ferry for touristic transport with extended site seeing tours on the river Rhein in Germany and Holland. The ship can carry 70 passengers at 40 knots. Low wake formation at high speed was a design request. The hydrofoil-assisted-system consisting of two full beam hydrofoils in tandem arrangement (see Photo) was developed by Dr. Hoppe and included the detail foil design concerning hydrodynamic optimization of shape and settings, cavitation free operation to 45 knots and the detailed strength analysis.
The London Jet (Operates in Nevada, USA) can carry 42 persons if children are included or 34 adults at speeds over 40 knots (46.1 mph). With the foil system installed and interceptor the fully laden top speed was 41.645 knots (48 mph) and with 32 passengers 43.38 knots (50 mph). With 34 passengers the fuel consumption at 35 knots cruising speed is about 2 * 20 gallons per hour (75.7 liter fuel per hour). Pollard and Fitch are fully satisfied with the Performance of the London Jet and considering size and number of passengers it is one of the most efficient high speed ferries or water taxis around with increased top speed, reduced fuel consumption and pleasant sea-keeping.
